offering better living
through better sleep.™

Until now, there really hasn't been a meaningful standard of care for people suffering from obstructive sleep apnea.

All of this began with a nagging feeling. A growing realization that there had to be a better way to diagnose and treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It had to be holistic and evidence based. It had to create a situation in which OSA could be overcome. As veterans of the medical device and experience design world, it didn't take long before we turned that realization into a project called Eveos.

At Eveos we've created a very innovative, personal and empowering standard of care to help people take control of their health. At the heart of our work is the belief that successful chronic OSA management must balance both standard and behavioral therapies. In addition to taming OSA, our ultimate aim is to share the power of healthy sleep with the greatest number of people possible.

Welcome to Eveos.
Founders Steven Radney and Evens Augustin on obstructive sleep apnea and the inspiration for Eveos.

Q: Why did you decide to start Eveos?

Steven Radney: We've spent a lot of time working in and thinking about the obstructive sleep apnea space. Today, the average consumer isn't empowered to take control of his or her OSA. To really change that we'd have to completely reinvent the standard of care, not just make it more efficient. We believe we can do better than the status quo, so we decided to create product and service experiences that could help people conquer OSA and lead healthy lives.

Evens Augustin: We also want to increase access to care as well. The current model for diagnosing and treating OSA is complex, impersonal, time consuming and expensive. So, less than 20% of people with OSA have been diagnosed and less than half adhere to therapy. We think it's fair to say the current standard of care is not working.

Q: What's different about Eveos?

SR: Eveos, at its core, is about changing the conversation on how OSA is treated. Right now, there aren't many ways to participate in the management of your own sleep health. Moreover, OSA sufferers just don't have the cheerleading section needed to enable successful care. Eveos is filling the vacuum in between by creating beautiful, useful tools that enable consumers to overcome the barriers to better health outcomes.

EA: SleepSphere™, our service and technology platform, allows people to test for, treat and overcome the symptoms of OSA in the comfort of their own homes. SleepSphere™ uses the Internet to redefine the relationships and interactions between people, their doctors and managed care organizations. And, people get to play an active role in their therapy. We'll actually help them wean themselves off therapy.

Q: Why activity monitoring?

EA: I'm glad you asked. More likely than not, OSA has originated as a result of poor lifestyle choices. However, weight management and physical activity can dramatically reduce the severity of OSA. So activity monitoring is just one of the tools we use to inform and motivate people who are out to beat OSA. And you can't beat OSA by treating the symptoms alone.

Q: Who is Eveos for?

SR: We're really good at helping people with simple OSA get tested and treated. They're connected to the Internet and haven't been successful managing their weight. Some people will simply love the convenience. And some will be excited about gaining a greater degree of control over their health outcomes.

Q: What does Eveos mean?

SR: Good sleep is essential to healthy living. As a matter of fact, the productivity of our daily sleep & wake cycles are so tightly intertwined that they need to be understood and managed holistically. Eveos reflects our dusk-to-dusk (day to night as “eve,” and night to day as “Eos”) approach to promoting healthy sleep. We hope this philosophy will soon become essential to how we all measure sleep.

Q: Can you talk about Eveos and design?

SR: Design has a role to play in changing people's behavior. But we want to do this in a positive, meaningful way to truly engage people. We're a team of care designers (clinicians, researchers and designers) working tirelessly to create people-centric services and product experiences that empower real change. One of the things we're doing is working closely with our product partners to think about service-product integration. It's thinking through the entire consumer experience from initial awareness of a sleep disorder all the way through to sustainable and holistic healing. So as far as design goes, we're always thinking about the future and how we will continue to break down the barriers that prevent healthy sleep.

Q: So what will the world look like with Eveos in it?

SR: We see a world where the pursuit of sleep is in balance with diet and exercise as tools for healthy living. The science of sleep will have inspired the minds of consumers, healthcare and government as a platform for positive change. Sleep apnea and its major co-morbidities will be in steady decline.
